VIENTIANE
LAOS
G'day folks,
Welcome to the capital of one of my favourite countries - LAOS.
Laos is a Southeast Asian country traversed by the Mekong
River and known for its mountainous terrain, French colonial architecture, hill
tribe settlements and Buddhist monasteries. Vientiane, the laid-back capital,
is the site of That Luang, reportedly housing the Buddha’s breastbone, plus the
Patuxai war memorial and Talat Sao (Morning Market), a shopping complex jammed
with food, clothes and craft stalls.
Population: 6.7 million

Located on a curve of the Mekong River, Vientiane Capital
has a recorded history that stretches back to around 1,000 AD. The area was
originally settled because of the fertility of the surrounding alluvial plains,
and Vientiane became the capital city of Laos around the mid-16th
century.
