9 June 2020 - RARE COLOURIZED PHOTOGRAPHS OF PARIS

RARE COLOURIZED
PHOTOGRAPHS
 OF PARIS

G'day folks,

As a photographer, I always love to look at the work of others.

Paris is renowned for its inspiring art and romantic flair. And, as you're about to see, even back in the days (the early 1900s) Paris had a charming feel to it. Normally, photos of this era tend to be in black and white, but we were lucky to happen across some rare, vintage color photos of France's stunning capital. Let's take a look at what Paris looked like before any of us had a chance to experience its magic.

In 1909 a wealthy French banker named Albert Kahn executed a documentation of Paris, along with other places in the world.

He did so by using a brand new type of technology at the time: Color photography. In its early days, this camera was called the Autochrome Lumière and Kahn commissioned four photographers to explore various places in the world and snap whatever they could find.

To capture these magnificent shots, they used color filters made from dyed potato starch grains, so that audiences may witness Paris's charm in the early 1900s, and get a clear visualization of what the city was like back then. These beautiful photos have been enhanced and improved for viewing.

Enjoy these ...

Clancy's comment: Wow. Oh, to be there now with my modern cameras.

4 August 2021 - GERARD BRION'S STUNNING MINIATURE PARIS

GERARD BRION'S STUNNING

 MINIATURE PARIS

G'day folks,

Gerard Brion is a French artist who has devoted his time and energy to recreating the capital city of his country, Paris, in minute detail. There's no doubt in my mind that you'll be amazed by the incredible effort this miniaturist has gone to to reform the famous boulevards and monuments of the City of Light on such a small scale. Take a look:

Clancy's comment: Extraordinary work. I wonder if he allows people to check it out?

8 May 2021 - FIRST PHOTOGRAPH OF A HUMAN

FIRST PHOTOGRAPH

OF A HUMAN

G'day folks,

In early 1838, Louis Daguerre used his famous daguerreotype process of photography to snap a photo of the Boulevard du Temple in Paris. The streets in the photo appear deserted: this is because the exposure time for the photo was so long that the cars and trams could not be captured.

Thus only the man having his shoes shined and the shoeshiner were motionless enough to be caught. This is thus the first known photograph of a person.

The daguerreotype was the first publicly available process of photography, announced in 1839, and for the following 20 years it was the most commonly used process.

Clancy's comment: Amazing. We have come a long way since then.

27 April 2021 - LEVALET'S BRILLIANT STREET ART IN PARIS

LEVALET'S BRILLIANT

STREET ART IN PARIS

G'day folks,

Charles Leval's soulful street art tells Paris's story, encompassing the beautiful City of Lights, its inhabitants, and visitors in all their complexity and glory.

You can see an ordinary food truck driver going about his daily tasks, a famous couple caught by surprise by the paparazzi, or a thief hastily disappearing in an alleyway, reminding you of all the great chase scenes filmed in the French capital.

Needless to say, Leval, better known under the pseudonym Levalet, is one of the most prolific street artists in Paris, and you'll be able to find his fun and dynamic black and white artworks scattered across the city's many walls. Here is a selection of his recent works.

Clancy's comment: Very clever.
