G'day folks,

People collect all sorts of things, but pencil sharpeners? Yes, it took more than 20 years and a sharp eye for one man to assemble this quirky collection.

Collecting pencil sharpeners and assembling them into a museum dedicated to pencil sharpeners is a kind of eccentric thing to do. Step inside the Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum in Logan, Ohio and it somehow seems perfectly admirable.

The Pencil Sharpener Museum is the result of over 20 years of collecting by Ohio local, Rev. Paul A. Johnson. His wife gave him a couple of car-shaped sharpeners in the late 1980s, and his zeal for collecting was born. The sharpeners lived in a pre-fab shed in Johnson’s backyard, growing over time to over 3400 at the time he passed away in 2010. His family was holding onto them when salvation for the whole collection – and the shed – came calling in 2011. It was the Hocking Hills Welcome Center, happy to take on the job of collection custodian, and everything was moved over to their site in South Logan.

Just like any museum, the collection has been meticulously cataloged and preserved in protective cases. There are sharpening cars, toys, Garfields, Mickeys, Tweetybirds, tractors, airplanes, trains, U.S. presidents, panda bears. There are old ones and new ones, and some shelf-mounted classics you generally only see at the library. Try to be sharp on your puns though—the staff has heard them all.

ARTIST USES PENCILS TO CREATE BRILLIANT WORK

G'day folks,

This artist named Shaun Mckenzie creates amazing hyper-realistic drawings only using colored pencils.

He's known as Neeyellow Art on his social media platforms and has gathered up a decent following.

Shaun usually draws celebrities, YouTubers, and even some characters from movies. He uses Faber-Castell colored pencils on Stonehenge paper to create the portraits. It usually takes Shaun from 60 to 80 hours to complete one drawing, depending on the techniques he uses. His hard work really does pay off, because it's hard to believe that his portraits are not photographs.

"I have been drawing since I was young. A few years ago, when I saw a video called 'drawing Harry Potter' by Heather Rooney, I was inspired and decided that I could do that as well. After a lot of failed attempts over the years, I finally managed to achieve my goals," the artist said.

I've featured this form of art before, but I just think it is so clever.

Dalton Ghetti creates miniature works of art resting solely on the tips of lead pencils. What is even more impressive is the fact that he doesn't rely on the use of a microscope or magnifying lens to sculpt out his phenomenal creations. This is one exhibit you must literally see to believe!

Dalton's "tools of the trade" include; a razor blade, a sculpting knife, a sewing needle, and a few No. 2 pencils. He carves a wide variety of designs, which range from a horse figurine to a perfectly shaped hammer.

The Brazilian-born artist currently resides in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and is a carpenter by trade. He began his artistic hobby over 25 years ago as a form of meditation.

G'day folks,

Art can take several different forms, each requiring a great deal of imagination as well as patience to achieve the desired result. But who would have imagined you can use your creativity on an ordinary art tool as a pencil?

After being inspired by the talented Dalton Ghetti and his amazing pencil carvings, the Bosnian sculptor Jasenko Đorđević decided to start making his own sculptures out of the small pencil tips by simply using an X-acto knife and a tiny chisel. The results, which take the forms of buildings, people, animals, and objects, turn out to be exceptionally rewarding.
