9 October 2021 - MAN FEEDS ANIMALS LEFT IN FUKUSHIMA

MAN FEEDS ANIMALS

LEFT IN FUKUSHIMA

G'day folks,

The Fukushima disaster was a nuclear disaster at the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant in Japan that began on March 11th, 2011. It resulted in a nuclear meltdown of three of the plant’s six nuclear reactors. The failure occurred when the plant was hit by a tsunami that was the result of a 9.0 magnitude earthquake.

The following day, March 12th, substantial amounts of radioactive material began to be released. This made it the largest nuclear incident since the Chernobyl disaster that occurred in April of 1986. Although no fatalities due to short-term radiation exposure were reported, approximately 300,000 people were evacuated from the area.

Due to various reasons, the people who were evacuated were not able to take their pets or farm animals with them when they were evacuated. This is where Naoto Matsumura comes into the picture. He is a fifty-five year old construction worker. He lives in the evacuated zone to care for the animals left behind. Why would he do that you might ask? Because they needed him.

Every day he is there, he is risking his own health and safety to care for the many animals that were abandoned when the area was evacuated.

He knows that every day he is there, his body is getting subjected to major radiation. He says that he, “Refuses to worry about it.” He does take steps, however, by only eating food imported into the zone.

He is currently the only human brave enough to live in the evacuation zone, and a lot of animals were chained up by their owners, so he set them free.

Clancy's comment: Go, Nato! What a great human.  Naoto has now been in the evacuation zone for about 4 years and has no plans to leave. If you are wondering where he gets the money to pay for all of the food for the animals, the answer is pretty great. All of the money comes from donations from supporters of his cause. If the donations ever dry up, he would no longer be able to feed and care for all of the animals in the evacuation zone.

15 September 2021 - THE SECRETIVE MANHATTAN PROJECT

THE SECRETIVE

MANHATTAN PROJECT

G'day folks,

The Manhattan Project was the codename for the American effort to develop and test nuclear weapons during World War II.

Run by General Leslie Groves, the construction of the actual bomb was overseen by Robert Oppenheimer, who was head of the Los Alamos Laboratory where it was developed.

In 1939 a letter written by Leo Szilard and signed by Albert Einstein was delivered to US President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The letter urged the United States to develop uranium stockpiles and commence research efforts, especially as Nazi Germany might do the same.

Two bomb types were developed: Little Boy, a uranium bomb, and Fat Man, a plutonium bomb. The work was carried out with extreme secrecy; many of those working on the project had no idea what they were working towards. Despite the security, Soviet spies managed to penetrate the project, and were aware that the US had developed the bomb.

On July 16, 1945, the Trinity test became the first detonation of a nuclear weapon. Less than a month later, President Harry Truman authorized the use of nuclear weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to date the only use of nuclear weapons in history. The bombs brought about the quick end of World War II without the need for a catastrophic invasion of Japan, but with an exceptionally high loss of civilian life in the two destroyed cities.

Clancy's comment: Mm ... and things sure have changed since then.

16 July 2020 - AMERICAN FAMILY FIND FALLOUT SHELTER IN BACKYARD

AMERICAN FAMILY FIND
FALLOUT SHELTER IN BACKYARD

G'day folks,

A Wisconsin family purchased a home knowing there was a big steel door in their backyard. They thought nothing of it and figured it was some sort of shelter or drainage access.

They paid no attention until they’d lived in the house for 10 years. One day their curiosity got the better of them and they decided to break the chains locking the heavy doors. They opened the doors and found a few feet of murky water inside a 8 foot by 10 foot chamber that the previous home owner had built for his family to shelter them in case of a nuclear attack.

Peering down into the dark hole they saw a few antique sealed military boxes floating in the muck below. Of course their excitement grew as they had no idea what was inside these floating treasures. They looked a little closer and saw that the boxes were for explosives and ammunition.

Immediately, they called the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). Agents rushed to the scene to investigate. The family thought this was just an empty underground space but they were completely shocked when the agents opened the boxes and exposed the contents. What they found was surprising to say the least:

Clancy's comment: What a find, eh? It pays to be very observant and curious about things.
