Synopsis

For many generations the people of the spires believed they were the only living human race left on their planet. They had been told that Daemons had inhabited the planet surface and driven their ancestors into the domed cities. When Markus and Filona fall in love, they break the strict laws of the domes. Markus is son of the Prefect of Alpha Dome, Filona an innkeepers daughter and their union is forbidden.

The couple flee to the planet surface, despite thoughts of the dangers they might face. What they find there will astound them. The decisions they make for their future will have a dramatic effect on the whole planet.

About your novel:

Q. Does the life of your main character parallel with yours in any way?

A. In a way. I met and married an Australian in England when I was 21, and then moved to Australia for love.

Q. Did you submit your manuscript to many publishers before you had an offer to publish?

A. None. I entered a competition linked with the CQ Literary Festival and won. The prize was a publishing contract with Morris Publishing Australia.

Q. How did you become a writer?

A. My interest arose out of being an avid reader in my youth. I have always had an active imagination and the challenge of writing was too great to ignore.

Q. Did you have to do much research for this book?

A. Very little. That is the joy of sci fi / fantasy.

Q. Can you tell me about the main character and what you like/dislike about him/her?

A. Markus is a person who does not want to conform, even though he is the son of the most important person in the domed city that is their world. He refuses to marry the person chosen for him. When he falls in love with someone forbidden to him, he would rather die than conform. The fact that he turns his back on his people when he has a chance to make a new life makes him less likeable, but he comes good in the end. I like that he is not perfect, but has good and bad qualities as we all do.
