SAMILLA ROBERTS
GUEST AUTHOR
G'day guys,
Today I welcome another emerging author - Samilla Roberts. Welcome, Samilla ...
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR WRITING
JOURNEY.
I have been
interested in writing from a young age, where I would often write short stories
or poems. At the age of 11, I started to explore writing a book on saving the
earth and started to write it. By the age of 14, I began writing a story, which
was quite short at first. Over the next few years, I worked on it further and
then left it for a while as I explored how to get my story published. Over the
next few years, my focus changed to writing song lyrics which I continued to do
for a few years. After that, I looked into publishing my story again and
decided to work on it further. This process lasted for a couple of years and
during that time, I found a publisher that I liked and signed a contract with
them. Since then, I have enjoyed writing even more and have planned my next few
books.
WERE YOU A GOOD READER AS A KID?
Yes, I often
enjoyed reading books, especially adventure stories.
WHEN AND HOW DID YOU BECOME A WRITER?
I have always had
a passion for both reading and writing from a very young age. I started out
writing very short stories and ideas. One day I had an idea and over a couple
of months I wrote an entire story which had the potential to be published. Over
the years I have been coming up with other ideas and improving my story to get
it ready for publication. Ever since, I have continued writing regularly.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING A
WRITER?
I get a thrill
from entertaining people and taking them on an adventure, while letting them
escape to different places and perhaps forget about some of their worries for a
little while. It is a satisfying experience to know that my work it getting out
into the world.
WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING A
WRITER?
Coming up with
fresh new ideas that are entertaining and can be made into a whole story, which
flows well and at a good pace.
WHAT WERE YOU IN A PAST LIFE, BEFORE YOU
BECAME A WRITER?
I have grown up
writing from a young age before starting a career. Other than writing, I am
also a musician and a professional in the science industry. At this stage with
my music, I am composing a wide variety of songs and have released five albums
which are being sold worldwide in major online music stores.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST WRITING ACHIEVEMENT?
Completing and
going through the hurdles of getting my first book published and starting to
write my next few books.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT?
I am working on
writing a few more fictional adventure novels.
WHAT GENRE DO YOU WRITE?
At this stage,
fictional adventure stories aim at teens.
DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR NEW WRITERS?
Practice as much
as you can, read a lot of different types of books, get active in the writing
community and most of all enjoy what you do.
DO YOU SUFFER FROM WRITER’S BLOCK?
Occasionally, when
that happens I take a short break to refresh my mind then come back to where I
had left off.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE WRITING PLACE?
At home.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST JOY IN WRITING?
Knowing that my
work is getting out there and that I have the opportunity to inspire and
entertain people and let them escape to different places without leaving their
homes.
HOW MANY BOOKS HAVE YOU PUBLISHED?
One, with a few
more on the way in the next few years.
OTHER THAN WRITING, WHAT ELSE DO YOU LOVE?

composing music and writing lyrics
DID YOU HAVE YOUR BOOK / BOOKS
PROFESSIONALLY EDITED BEFORE PUBLICATION?
Yes, as part of my
publishing contract, complete editing was done before publication.
IF YOU HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK TO THE
ENTIRE WORLD, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
Live each day to
the fullest, never take anything for granted and dream big because anything is
possible.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
I am planning to
continue writing more books and expanding to different genres with both my
writing and music. Additionally, I am also developing my scientific skills and
career.
