Mia Hoddell - Guest Author

G'day guys,

Today I am very pleased to introduce an exciting author from the United Kingdom - Mia Hoddell. Mia lives in the UK with her family and two cats. She spends most of her time writing or reading and her preferred genre is Young Adult, Paranormal Romance. Before 2009, Mia wouldn't even pick up a book, and was more interested in sports. However she finally found some novels that interested her and developed a love of writing. Mia began with short stories but found she had too much to tell with too little space, so later on she created The Wanderer Trilogy and from there other ideas have emerged which she hopes to turn into novels as well. Welcome, Mia. Tell us more ...

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR WRITING JOURNEY.

I’m still a new author so my journey so far has been pretty short. Writing is my passion and I am happiest when creating my books. I have written two books “The Sheol” and “The Flawless” so far, which are the first the books in a trilogy. There is never a day where I am not dong something towards my writing and so far I am enjoying every second.

WERE YOU A GOOD READER AS A KID?

I was good at reading but it didn’t interest me so until 2009 I wouldn’t even pick up a book, no matter how much my parents told me to. I was more interested in sports and other things. Also my English teacher in high school used to make us review a different book we had read every month and because I had never read any I used to make up a story. I guess that should have been my clue for to wanting to write. I love reading now though!

WHEN AND HOW DID YOU BECOME A WRITER?

I was fourteen when I started writing. I started with short stories that normally had paranormal aspects and then later they helped me develop ideas for The Wanderer Trilogy.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING A WRITER?

I love being able to invent anything, be anything and live in a fantasy world where anything is possible while creating a book.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST WRITING ACHIEVEMENT?

At the moment I am still working on promoting my books but so far I would have to say getting my book printed in paperback. I was so excited when it came in the post; to me, there’s just something different about owning a paperback rather than an ebook.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT?

At the moment I am working on the third book in The Wanderer Trilogy (The Hunted) and I am also half way through a new series that is more of a Romance novel with paranormal aspects.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

For my first book a song inspired me to start writing but I get inspiration from any place where something catches my eye. My dreams are pretty weird too and some ideas stem from there.

 WHAT GENRE DO YOU WRITE?

Mostly I write YA, Paranormal Romances at the moment, but that may change in the future once I have completed all the ideas in my head.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE WRITING PLACE?

I normally write at my desk but every so often I need a change of scenery so will take my ipod and wander around the fields. I love writing outside in the summer and because of my busy schedule I have to write on the move a lot.

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR AND WHY?

Wow that’s hard! Since I started reading I have read hundreds of books, so it is hard to pick just one. Julia Golding was the author of the book that got me into reading so I would probably have to say her. I also love Derek Landy as his books always make me laugh.

WRITERS ARE SOMETIMES INFLUENCED BY THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN THEIR OWN LIVES. ARE YOU?

My first series, The Wanderer Trilogy, wasn’t influenced by things that happened in my life (I’d be slightly worried if it was) but my acting A-level helped immensely with getting into the role of Kala. My new series however is stemmed from something that has and still is happening to me.

HOW MANY BOOKS HAVE YOU PUBLISHED?

I have published two books so far, but hopefully will have a third out by the end of this year.

OTHER THAN WRITING, WHAT ELSE DO YOU LOVE?

I love reading, acting, photography, sports (although I don’t have much time to play competitively anymore) and anything creative.

WHAT ARE YOUR GREATEST ASSETS AS A WRITER?

I’d probably say my imagination as without it I wouldn’t be able to create the books I have. Also knowing my way around a computer and how to use different website has helped a lot in the promotional side as it saved me a lot of time figuring stuff out.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

I’m planning to have five books out by the end of next year. Also I want to start doing blog tours and expand my reading collection.
